Gwen Stefani's Stylist Reveals the Secret Behind Her Iconic Looks: "Almost Everything Is Customized"

Gwen Stefani wants to reintroduce herself to us, and we're all ears. With her latest single, "Let Me Reintroduce Myself" being a tribute to some of her most iconic eras, we thought it was fitting to go back over Gwen's most iconic looks. We talked with her stylist, Sonja Christensen, who is responsible for some of Gwen's most memorable outfits, including that sheer black netted gown by Charbel Zoe Couture from The Voice's finale that was simply b-a-n-a-n-a-s. Speaking of that dress, Sonja revealed that it was actually her favorite recent red carpet look. "We added a ton of additional details to that dress (with the permission of the designer, of course). The dress was beautiful, and she looked absolutely stunning," she said.

As for how Gwen's style has evolved over the years, Sonja said, "From the '90s compared to today, I'd characterize Gwen's style as a beautiful evolution; a mix of pop, punk, a hint of country meets high fashion, and a bit sexy. Just as she's evolved as an artist, so has her style. She has really embraced her feminine side and her iconic tomboy style from back then. She has added more pink, a little sparkle, and fringe. Gwen isn't afraid to take risks, which is why she is the style icon that she is today."

"Almost every one of the pieces [Gwen] wears has some sort of customization. So just like her, each piece is unique!"

Sonja confirms that almost every outfit Gwen wears is unique in some way. "Almost every one of the pieces [Gwen] wears has some sort of customization, so just like her, each piece is unique! Most recently, Gwen and I collaborated on a custom look for one of the blind shows on this season of The Voice. Her vision was a sparkly superhero vibe. I got in touch with Traver Rains, who was formally the designer for Heatherette, and Ske Drynan of Dulce Bestia, both of whom were quarantining in Montana at the time. They didn't let that stop them! They got to work and started sketching. I'd Facetime with Gwen while she was in Oklahoma at the time and showed her the trims and materials, and we'd tweak things along the way. After four back-to-back fittings in LA, it came out just like we had envisioned!"

Since Gwen has worn a variety of designers over the years, we had to ask if the singer had any favorites. "The cool thing about Gwen is that she is honestly open to trying anything, so long as it looks good. She does love Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, Ronald Van der Kemp, and Zuhair Murad," Sonja told POPSUGAR.

Keep scrolling to take a look back at some of our favorite style moments from Gwen ahead.
