Surprise! Brother Vellies is coming out with sneakers. It seems like the designer Aurora James has taken everyone's messages to heart, because she posted a sneak peek on her Instagram Stories. The brand was founded in 2013 with the goal of keeping traditional African design practices and techniques alive while also creating and sustaining artisanal jobs.
Last year, Aurora also created the 15 percent pledge, which is gaining a lot of traction among retailers. In case you're not aware, the initiative asked larger corporations like Net-a-Porter, Sephora, and Saks Fifth Avenue (just to name a few) to step up to the plate and help make a change. She demanded a pledge from large companies to buy 15 percent of products from Black designers.
While we don't know much about the release date or price point yet of these new sneakers, we're sure the shoes will sell out quickly. Come back here for more information, as we'll be updating this post with more details as we get them. In the meantime, shop some of Brother Vellies's famous boots to tide you over.
