Whether you live and breathe fashion or spend most of your free time on TikTok (or both), then chances are you've heard of NYC-based curve model Remi Bader (@remibader) and her "realistic hauls." If not, then it is my pleasure to formally introduce you to this hilarious and refreshing influencer and implore you to follow her ASAP. Let me explain why. As someone who admittedly scrolls through TikTok for hours on end, I'll be the first to say Bader's videos, in which she reviews clothing and comments on the fit - often copying the fit models' poses and exposing the size discrepancies from different brands - are pure gold.
Before Bader took to TikTok, she worked at JAY-Z's music streaming service Tidal as a partnership marketing coordinator, where she helped launch and manage relationships and activations with partners around album releases, live streams, documentaries, and events. "Working at Tidal was awesome," Bader told POPSUGAR. "But being my own boss and being in control of my own content and decisions is a game changer."
As far as becoming a full-fledged TikTok influencer goes, it was a happy accident. Bader signed with Stetts Model Management, a boutique modeling agency based in NYC, and started making TikTok videos in her free time. All was quiet until she posted a video targeted at UK-based retailer PrettyLittleThing about how none of its clothes fit her, even in her size. It currently has 26.2K views (and counting).
"Never feel discouraged by how clothing fits, what size you are, or if brands don't have your size available."
Soon enough, Bader's realistic-haul series was born. Brand highlights include Revolve, Brandy Melville, Free People, Anthropologie . . . the list goes on. And her account doesn't solely consist of realistic hauls, either. In fact, what attracted me the most to her page were the honesty and candor that she gives her viewers about every topic imaginable, including (but not limited to) hate comments, body image, and bad days. "When I have rough days, I need to decide what is best for my mental health," Bader said. "Should I express my feelings to over a million people, and will it help me to get their messages and advice? A lot of the time, it does." Bader said she feels safe and supported knowing she has so many people (1.3 million, to be exact) there for her virtually. And as one of her biggest fans, I can attest that it's easy to be there for Bader when she's there for us every single day.
What makes Bader even more appealing is that her content appeals to everyone, regardless of sex, age, race, gender, or size. "I have moms watching my videos who tell me they are inspired in a way they never have been before, and I have younger girls thanking me for finally giving them the confidence they never had when it comes to fashion," she said. "I also notice more and more that it isn't only curvy women that watch my content, but women of all sizes. You'd be surprised how discouraged skinny women can feel about shopping as well. I want to be there for them, too."
Brands are also taking notice, and Bader can only hope that they listen. "TikTok is a platform of real people speaking about how they feel," she said. "Brands need to be listening and watching if they want to keep their customers." As for her fans, Bader has a piece of advice: "Never feel discouraged by how clothing fits, what size you are, or if brands don't have your size available. Whether you are tall, short, skinny, or curvy, we have all felt this way at some point in our lives. It's time we stop putting the blame on ourselves, because it simply isn't our fault."
If you weren't completely obsessed with Bader before, we hope you are now. Ahead, watch some of her best realistic-haul videos.
